Rare Frilled Shark Video

MSNBC has video of a female frilled shark. From MSNBC News:

“We believe moving pictures of a live specimen are extremely rare,” said an official at the park. “They live between 600 and 1,000 meters under the water, which is deeper than humans can go.”
A rare frilled shark swims in a tank in Numazu, Japan, earlier this week.
“We think it may have come close to the surface because it was sick, or else it was weakened because it was in shallow waters,” the official said.
The shark died a few hours after being caught.

Bummer. Poor thing.

  1. I wonder if its a coincidence that both this and the giant squid ended up dead after a run-in with Japanese marine biologists. :) Sushi, anyone?

  2. Yes, it’s premeditated sushi-cide.

  3. On second thought, I wonder if the squid was female as well. Perhaps Japanese marine biologists have issues with female sea life? Taking the Patriarchy to an extreme…
