  4. No, I already have a copy of the DOL. This new book is actually about real science – it’s the revised edition of Mammoths: Giants of the Ice Age

  5. I’m glad it’s about mammoths, and not about ID. Heck, when I was a kid, I always wished there were mammoths around today. I thought it would be kind of neat to have furry elephants running around in cold places.

  6. You can have your stinkin’ Mammoths – I’d rather have a Mastadon.

  7. J-Dog,
You sort of do. We call them Asian Elephants, and say they’re descended from Mastodons. Elderly males in India are known to take on a Mastodon like appearance.

  8. No, Mastodons split off well before the African/Mammoth/Asian clade (about 25 MYA) . Mammoths are the ones that are more closely related to Asian elephants
