Frightening Thought of The Day

Via Think Progress comes a report about the President and a recent meeting with supporters:
Friends of his from Texas were shocked recently to find him nearly wild-eyed, thumping himself on the chest three times while he repeated “I am the president!” He also made it clear he was setting Iraq up so his successor could not get out of “our country’s destiny. [emphasis mine – afarensis]”

  1. He’s on the bottle again. It’s becoming very evident as of late.
Not surprising really since things aren’t going his way. I excepted this a bit sooner but am thrilled to see him coming apart at the seams.

  2. You really want to get rid of Cheney before driving Bush nuts. Cheney is really evil – Bush is just stupid. Even so, the Democrats are not in position, apparently, to really sock it to Bush. They can’t override any of his vetos and don’t have the balls to stand him down eye to eye.
The only thing I can think of that will push Bush over the edge is to find a way to remove Rove and Cheney. Then he will truly stand alone and the real whiner will come out. Remember Bush is a guy who, when unable to win a game, will make you play and replay and replay and change the rules and do whatever he has to do to “win”, even cheat. Keeping that in mind, Democrats need to craft a few wins and then refuse to play with him. That will drive him nuts quickly.

  3. I think the only reason Bush has not been impeached by now is because that would make Cheney president.

  4. Afarensis,
Though there may be something to the “President Dick Cheney” restraint on impeachment, I think the real reason is that they lack the votes to convict. Impeachment would proceed through the House rather easily (like it did with Clinton), simply voting along party lines would be enough to impeach. When it went to the Senate the case would fail. Republicans have shown that they will vote with Bush on just about anything, I’d half expect them to vote their own executions if they believed it would help them to win the next election against the Democrats. So what you would have would be a Clinton impeachment with the parties reversed. Bush would be impeached by the House (almost certainly along party lines with few exceptions on either side) then it would go to the Senate where they would examine the evidence and (again along party lines) he would be cleared of the charges. It would then likely end up as a catastrophic election issue for 2008, “see! The Democrats wrongfully persecuted poor president Bush while the nation was at war!!!”
Total departure from reality? Yes. Does Bush deserve to be impeached and removed from office? Definitely. Would the Democrats be commiting group political suicide if they tried? Most likely.

  5. Re what Dogmeatib claimed, I don’t know if “the Democrats would be committing group political suicied if they tried” to impeach Bush, Cheney, et al. What I do know is, that President Bush will probably be remembered as the absolute worst president this country has ever had the misfortune to endure.
